BRIGHTON FASHION WEEK 2011 - SPINDLE MAGAZINE ARTICLE

As the darkness fell from the hallowed setting of St Martin’s Church, Katie Newsam opened the Brighton Frocks with a collection entitled ‘Candied Taunt.’
As you can imagine straight from the title the viewer was taunted with bright candy colours literally jumping out at you through Newsam’s 3D designs.
With definite inspiration of Clowns and the aesthetic of the circus, Newsam managed to strip away the stereotypical clichés of the circus into something beautifully constructed. The bright colours of the funfair were matched with digitally designed prints of Flamingoes and merry go round horses, a ride which the models looked like they had been stuck on with manic doll-like behaviour, dizzy and curious to know who the crowd in front of them were.
The highlight was an amazingly beautiful pair of bondage trousers which wrapped around the legs and into a delicate sheer blouse with long draped flowing sleeves. The day at the circus just got slick!
